Many people think that the side view (profile view) of the head is one of the hardest to draw, but this is because they just dont know how. While it takes a bit of time to get comfortable with the nose lips and chin and to keep them from looking out of proportion and mis-shapen, it is a bit easier than a front face view, and much easier than a 3/4 view. With only one ear, and eye, you dont have to worry about symmetry (or lack thereof). Once you are comfortable with the nose, chin, and lips, i belive that you will enjoy drawing the profile view.
First We will start off with a circle... pretty self-explanatory...
O
Next we will Divide the head into halves horizontaly and verticaly. The eye goes along the horizontaly line as you should already know. The ear (still lined up with the eye on the horiz. line) is on the vertical line. I am going to extend 3 lines off of the circle to get us started with the facial features, on line curves out from just below the eye. The second comes off of the bottom of the vertical line. and the last connects the other 2. (Experiment with the lengths and postions of these lines to find a position that fits your style).

Now for the fun part, the facial features (nose, eye, mouth, and chin). Remember the proportions from the basic head? The bottom of the nose is halfway between the eye and the chin, and the mouth is about halfway between the bottom of the nose and the chin. Examine and practice my example here to understand how the lips come out, how the nose curves in and how the chin is formed. These are all hard to put into words. But remember that the nose should tilt up a little, the upper lip is smaller than the lower lip, and the chin should not be to pointy, or to flat (the human face and body is curved, and flowing).
Now i am going to clean up my picture a bit by erasing the construction lines and other unnesisary marks. When adding hair, remember to let it flow, and mind where it is coming from. Avoid single strands, and avoid clumps that are too big. Always keep in mind the head underneath.
Finaly, im going to CG this, and finish it off. I hope this tutorial was helpful, and that you have learned much from it! Keep practicing, and dont let your mouse dry up!
